And the good news is.....

I can use a sewing machine with my hand wrapped and swollen! Got started on my Fabric Post Cards for January...very happy with them! I'll wait to post a photo later.

The nurse I visited today to get my bandages changed said my burn was "very pretty". I didn't think so but I guess she's seen a lot more 2nd degree burns than I have! This bandage I leave on until Thursday and change again for a shorter period. Would you like to see my burn when I put on new gauzes Thursday?

Sandi over at Embroideroo and I have a BUTTON thing....so these photos are for her! And, of course, anyone else who likes old buttons! I purchased a box full of buttons at an auction in 1998 while visiting my friends in the Buffalo area of New York. The price has escaped my memory bank but I know whatever it was I was very, very pleased with my purchase in the evening when I thoroughly explored the contents. Whoever had the buttons before me had organized them in bundles by size and color although many were loose or on cards. I can't bare to release them from the cards...just too cool. Do you see the Eygptian looking one? Many are mother of pearl, bone, tortoise shell and wood. And a lot are funky plastic, too.
There are some packets with button cover kits...I might use them. Recently saw an idea on....oh, agh...I can't find it now.

What buttons do you collect? Use? Display?
I'd like to hear your ideas! or have some links....I can't just leave them stored in a box forever...or can I? (my secret treasure!)

I am so sorry to hear about your burn.....A couple of months ago I burned myself with a glue gun, but not as bad as yours must be....Check out the books I have been reading at elmcreek.net. Love them, a little history, a little modern. I loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books growing up and this gives me just a tad of that fix!! Take Care!!!

Oh, sorry to hear about your burnt hand, it must be painful OW. Glad to see you can still use it a bit, and have been stitching :)

Wow, I'm very impressed with your button box from the auction. There are some lovely vintage ones. What treasures! It is fun just looking through the box at all the different styles of buttons.

I made a circular tablecloth from calico (to fit a table on our verandah)and have stitched shell and natural colour buttons (lots and lots) all around the edge. (it took a while to do this)It turned out great, and the weight of the buttons holds the cloth down if it is a bit windy.

Hope your hand is getting better.
Cheers,
Sandi

Glad to hear your burn is healing. My mother gave me her old tin with buttons from who knows where or when. I use them with the clothes I make off and on and look curiously through the tin off and on. They are fun and interesting. Someday it will be passed onto my daughter.

Hey...I DO collect buttons!!!! And when I found out that I had BUTTONS as my 3rd great grandparents I felt like it was a SIGN..a connection.
Anyway...did you know I was an Elementary Ed major? That's why I have so many teaching aids...I LOVE to "INVENT" Them--even more I LOVE to use them with the kids....even thought about it as a business... to invent and then sell in teacher magazines. Did you see my PUNCH BAG thing? THe kids go crazy for that. I even have a BIG spinner wheel like on wheel of fortune that Josh built for me...I have been away so long it would take me 3 semesters to get my certificate, and I just can't get the heart up for it when I weigh all the bureaucracy and crazy programs like no child left behind that end up hurting individual students more than helping them here...at least with all of our Mexican immigrants. Its a hard job emotionally if you REALLY care.
